Going Green

At The British School of Costa Daurada we have begun our journey to minimize our environmental impact and to educate our students about environmental sustainability. We began our Going Green project in 2018 with the development of a recycling programme run by our reception and primary students. We have drastically reduced the quantity of residues we produce in the process. Now the school separates and recycles all paper, plastic, writing instruments, and we compost our organic matter. We will be growing vegetables and herbs in our new allotment, and we hope to share our efforts and good intentions with our community in the future.

Music

Our music programme at The British School of Costa Daurada aims to teach musical concepts through movement. This allows students to learn in a natural and holistic manner from a young age.

Combining rhythm, the scales, and improvisation we are able to teach children how to use their creativity to express themselves through movement and music. It isn’t about dancing to the music but rather about learning to move with the music.

By acquiring musical knowledge in this manner students are able to learn in a more authentic and playful manner, which allows pupils to enjoy the process of making music while developing artistic, creative musical expression. The bases of this process are essentially: being present and enjoying the music, giving more priority to the process rather than the result, improvisation, and learning technique through experimentation with instruments.

The instruments that are used in our music programme include: large and small percussion equipment, drums, harmonicas, flutes, ukuleles, as well as the voice and body percussion.
